Births on the Island

A monumental moment on last Wednesday's episode, La Fleur, hasn't been touched on much:

A successful birth on the island.

So, whatever happened on the island to make it impossible for women to give birth,
hasn't happened yet.

What's going to happen to cause birthing issues?
Perhaps the mysterious incident that takes Dr. Pierre Chang's arm?

Any thoughts?

I have no idea what the "incident" could be that makes it impossible for babies to be born on the island.

But I think the reason why would be due to the time traveling...

we haven't seen anyone run into their own self while time travelling... so maybe this is the island's way of ensuring this won't ever happen? Say, a baby is born on the island... but then starts time travelling... what is to keep that person from seeing themselves in their own past/present/future?

Does this even make sense???

I have no idea either. And, maybe it is the time travel. Who knows?!? But, I feel like it has something to do with Ben. Doesn't everything?

They said that the expectant mothers were usually taken to the mainand to deliver, though, so I was thinking they were expecting some sort of problem.

I am curious to see if the egyptian ankh has anything to do with the births? Probably not, but hey... every theory must be considered at this point, right?

I REALLY wonder if it has something to do with time travel or flashes. Perhaps they re-started? I have thought about the time travel theory (with regard to the birthing...) in the past, because of the episode 'Not in Portland' (S3) where Juliet looked at an x -ray of a womb and guessed it was a 70 year old woman, but it was actually only a 26 year old woman... perhaps the island started moving through time...

Or maybe it has something to do with the radiation or the elusive 'incident' that we still don't fully understand?

I think it has something to do with Ben too.

Ben's mother died during child birth, and he had to live with his loser father, whom he eventually killed.

I think he resents that his mother died during birth and is doing something to prevent healthy births.

Danielle Roussea gave birth to Alex, and she was what?...about 16 when she died? So there seem to be plenty more years of healthy births through the 70's and on.....

I say Karma!!

Once Ben turns traitor and helps the Others murder all the Dharma people, then no one can have children. Murderes shouldn't breed!

Well that's my two cents anyway.
